Scalise: Two Tiers of Justice in America

Interview

Date: June 20, 2023
Location: Washington, D.C.

"Well, Larry, great to be back with you and there's a lot there. In fact, I was just talking to Chairman Jim Jordan a few minutes ago about a number of these items. The first thing -- it's clear from all of this -- if there was ever any doubt whether or not there is a different standard of justice if your last name is Biden versus Trump, this surely shows it. You know, millions of dollars in unreported income [and] filing false application on a gun form, and you get a slap on the wrist, and then you look at what they're trying to do to Donald Trump. Completely different application of justice.

"That, I think, is what is at the heart of what angers people the most, is that people are being treated differently based on [what] their last name is or what their political affiliation is. As far as the investigations go, the House is going to continue to move forward aggressively at getting out the facts, and that's really at the heart of this. I don't think you would have seen any of this -- including this slap on the wrist, kind of "sweetheart deal' by the Justice Department with Hunter Biden -- if you didn't see [House Oversight Committee Chairman] Comer's committee and [House Judiciary Committee Chairman] Jordan's committee doing the work that they've done to get a lot of this out into the public domain.

"There's even more to get. You've seen with [Senator] Grassley's whistleblower, you know, on the Burisma case. It alludes to, by the way, tape recordings of some of these deals. Where are those tape recordings? Does [the Department of Justice] have those recordings? Those questions haven't been answered. There [are] a lot of questions still left to be answered, and we're going to keep asking those questions and getting the facts out on all of these fronts. And unfortunately, there [are] a lot -- of facts to go get."

BREAK IN TRANSCRIPT

"Well, that's one thing that's unknown Larry. You know, how wide is this probe that -- supposedly -- they just reached this "sweetheart deal' with Hunter Biden over -- you know, Hunter hasn't formally accepted the deal [and] we expect that to happen in the next few days, but they haven't said how much this involves. Does this involve the Burisma questions? All of the shell corporations that [Chairman] Comer exposed just a few weeks ago. All these bank accounts with millions of dollars going to multiple Bidens. You know, you have Bidens that we never even knew existed that are getting millions of dollars in shell corporations -- some from foreign nations. For what, Larry? No one's answered those questions. I doubt that's part of this deal, but no one's told us that. We're going to keep digging into all of this."

BREAK IN TRANSCRIPT

"Yeah and Larry, that's what [Chairman] Comer has said from the beginning. This isn't an investigation directly into Hunter Biden. It's about [President] Biden, the "big guy,' and there's multiple references now -- both from people paying [and] from people who receive money -- all referencing the "big guy' and everybody knows that's [President] Biden. And so the tapes alleged that this was a pay-for-play scheme where American foreign policy was up for sale when [President] Biden was Vice President.

"If that happened, that's something everybody in America should be alarmed about. The fact that the mainstream media won't even ask these basic questions to the President tells you, you know, that they've already picked a side, but the American people want to know these answers, and they should and we're going to keep digging to get those answers. Again, Hunter Biden's a piece of this -- the laptop opened up that. You saw the mainstream media trying to shut the laptop story down back in 2020 because they didn't want to know what might come out of it. Well, now a lot of this has come out and there's even more to find out. We're going to keep digging."

BREAK IN TRANSCRIPT

"Well, [Chairman] Comer is not going to slow down, can tell you that. [Chairman] Comer has been -- I think -- very thorough, doing incredibly great work. His whole committee -- the [Committee on Oversight and Reform] -- has been doing great work. [Chairman] Jordan and his [Committee on the Judiciary] have been doing great work. It's the only reason I think you see most people talking about this."
